Apple Health: resting heart rate, HRV and sleep.
The Health app on iPhone collects values from Apple Watch, other watches and apps. Here is how to find the three values that tell you most about recovery.
Finding the values
The quickest way is the search in the Health app: type “Resting Heart Rate”, “Heart Rate Variability” or “Sleep”. For each value, Health shows a day, week, month and year view.
Values you look at often can be added to the Summary page with “Add to Favourites”. That way you see resting heart rate, HRV and sleep together at a glance.
Where the values come from
Resting heart rate and HRV are mainly recorded by Apple Watch. Other watches and rings can write values to Health through their own app, if they support it. Which values arrive depends on the device and its app.
At the bottom of a value’s page you will find “Data Sources & Access”. There you can see which app provides what, and in which order Health prefers the sources when several report the same value. A fixed main source keeps your history calmer.
Recording sleep
Apple Watch records sleep when you wear it at night and sleep tracking is set up; the Health app walks you through the setup under “Sleep”. Other devices and apps can write sleep times to Health as well.
For your history, regularity matters most: a few nights without the watch are no problem, but long gaps make your usual range less precise.
Connecting values with mypacing
After you sign in, mypacing asks which values the app may read – such as steps, sleep, heart rate, resting heart rate and HRV. You decide for each value separately. You can change this at any time in the Health app via your profile picture under “Apps”, or in iPhone Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Health”.
mypacing compares the values only with your own history. You can download your data in the app and delete your account there at any time. mypacing is available on the App Store.
