Exam season: planning effort and recovery.

In exam season, the load is mostly mental. Fixed revision blocks with planned breaks show how full a week really is. In Germany, apprentices also have a legal right to time off for exams.

The check-in asks about mental load separately

A day of revision at the desk can feel heavier in the evening than a long walk, even if steps and pulse stay calm. That is why the mypacing check-in asks specifically: “How much was on your mind today?” The answer ranges from barely to very much.

Over weeks, your history shows how mental load is spread across revision days and days off. mypacing does not calculate a stress score from it. It shows your own answers.

Revision blocks and breaks get a fixed place

The break rhythm in mypacing is an interval timer. You set active time, break time and number of rounds yourself, for example four rounds of 25 minutes of revision and 5 minutes of break. With your permission, a notification reminds you at each change. The split is an example, not a recommendation.

In the day plan you enter revision blocks as plans with energy points. That way you can see in advance whether there is time left for anything else besides revision, a side job and getting around.

Apprentices get time off for exams

Under § 15 of the German Vocational Training Act (BBiG), training companies must give apprentices time off to take exams. They must also be released on the working day immediately before the written final exam. For young people under 18, the Youth Employment Protection Act also sets breaks, for example 30 minutes for more than four and a half and up to six hours of work.

Questions about how your exam works are answered by the body that holds it, for example your chamber of commerce or crafts.

Free practice websites for public administration and entrance tests

For two German exams there are free learning and practice websites from SIGAtech:

  • vl-ueben.de for the administrative courses I and II in North Rhine-Westphalia, with exam topics, case files and exam simulation.
  • einstellungstest-ueben.de, a knowledge base on entrance tests for the public sector with task types and worked solutions.

Both are in German. mypacing adds a view of effort and recovery during exam season.

Your review shows how the exam weeks went

After the exam, the weekly review shows how many energy points were planned in the weeks before and how your wellbeing and mental load were. Effort, recovery and wellbeing appear side by side.

mypacing does not analyse this. What you take from it for the next exam period is up to you.
