Rest moment: a breathing pace to follow.

The rest moment sets a pace to breathe along with. A sphere grows as you breathe in and shrinks as you breathe out. You choose 4 seconds in and 6 seconds out, or 5 and 5, for 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes.

A pace to breathe along with, nothing more

The rest moment sets an even pace. You breathe along if you want and can pause or stop at any time. It measures nothing and judges nothing. It is a break with a clear shape: start, pace, end.

Many watches have similar features. The Mindfulness app on Apple Watch, for example, offers breathing sessions of one to five minutes with an adjustable number of breaths per minute.

Two paces and four lengths

  • Longer out: 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out. This is the default.
  • Even: 5 seconds in, 5 seconds out.
  • Duration: 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes, with 2 minutes as the default.
  • Vibration: optional in the apps at each change between breathing in and out.

With both paces, one breath takes 10 seconds. That makes six breaths per minute.

The display stays calm

During the rest moment, “Breathe in” or “Breathe out” appears in large type, together with the time left. If reduced motion is turned on on your device, mypacing shows a calmer display. Screen readers announce each change of phase.

The minutes can be saved as mindful minutes

In the iPhone and Android apps you can save the time at the end to Apple Health or Health Connect as mindful minutes. Health Connect has its own data type for mindfulness sessions. There the minutes appear next to entries from other apps.

The rest moment fits as a fixed break in a break rhythm or as a transition after a busy appointment. When you use it is up to you.
